Lego DUPLO, Jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky.
Lego – I am so glad I kept mine for 38 years – it never goes out of date, but it certainly gets updated!! My son loves Lego DUPLO, so imagine my delight when I discovered the ‘Jake and the Pirate’ range!! He has the Pirate ship Bucky and I swear, that’s the reason I get to do my ironing!
He has a choice – does he stop Captain Hook from sneaking on board Jake’s Pirate ship Bucky or not? He can keep watch from the lookout, the tower rotates so he misses nothing, fire the cannon – with its unique shooter function, and hoist the sail. This set has something for good and naughty pirates alike. The ship can be built from scratch and the set includes Jake and Captain Hook figures.
Do you escape to the island? Will your treasure ever be found?
The pirate themed DUPLO bricks are great for little hands, suitable for younger children, and full of fun. Bury the treasure chest, the kit includes a shovel, bendable green leaves, flowers, a sword and much more.
This is the ultimate set for younger children – trust me, my 4 yr old is a bit of a challenge and this keeps him entertained for hours – thank you Lego!
The set measures over 11” high, 12” long and 6” wide. The island measures over 9” high, 6”wide and 6” long.
Very good value for money at £39.99, can you really put a price on contentment??

Build-A-Bear Workshop Smurfs!
Who doesn’t love Build-A-Bear? I have been to the original shop once and my hubby couldn’t get me out! I love the concept, and the toys are so cuddly and individual.
Born in the 70’s, I grew up loving the smurfs and was totally blown away when the smurfs came to the cinema! I came out grinning from ear to ear!
Imagine my delight when I found Smurfs on the Build-A-Bear website, go on, have a look! Vexy, Smurfette and Hackus are just waiting to be given a home and loved.
Thankfully my 8yr old daughters’ birthday was coming up and as she loves the Smurfs, I was able to take home my very own Build-A-Bear Smurf !!
Vexy now lives with us, and she is simply amazing! Very mischievous in her Vexy dress and combat boots, she has not been set down from she arrived. She is so soft and cuddly, just perfect.

Pabobo Super Nomade night light.
Small but super: The Pabobo Super Normade.
Why was this not available thirty years ago? I am certain I am not the only one who remembers pulling the bedclothes almost over their head, and looking out over the top just to watch out for the ‘bogie man’. Pabobo is the inventor of the first portable, rechargeable nightlight.
This nightlight can be cuddled all night by your child as its LED and won’t get hot, not even under the covers. The ergonomical shape ensures it is cuddly with no sharp edges or uncomfortable parts, just like teddy but better – teddy doesn’t light up and scare away ‘monsters’!
This cute little character comes in Taupe, Pink or Blue. Now, as well as being cute, he is also very clever!
He knows when to turn on and off, when its’ light and dark. How smart is that? He is also parent friendly, busy mum’s will appreciate that the charge lasts over 200 hours, so perfect for taking on holiday’s.
All Pabobo products comply with CE standards and are designed for kids, so rest assured, this is a child friendly and safe product, worth every penny at £35.00. I mean, can you put a price on a nights sleep??
Available from Mamas & Papas and Safetots.

Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar
Looking for a toy that’s both fun and educational? Look no further than www.leapfrogstore.co.uk. Their touch magic rockin’ guitar is suitable for ages 3 years and upwards, and I have to admit, my husband loves it as much as my son!
It plays all the old familiar songs like ‘Pop goes the weasel’ and ‘Itsy-Bitsy Spider’ and many more. It also includes percussion and special effect sounds. My son loves the ‘Applause’ as he takes a bow. What distinguishes this guitar from the rest is the unique gesture recognition. Yes, it actually works like a real guitar, so my son has discovered his ‘inner rock star’ many times! The lights are super too, lighting up in time to the music.
It is so important children have toys like this, which promote music and creativity and I have always tried to limit the time spent watching television and playing computer games! However, since this guitar has arrived, the playroom has been transformed into a ‘stage’ and the dressing-up box is out every day. I would highly recommend it, and will be purchasing another one soon (for daddy!) He connects to the online Leapfrog learning path where they have customised learning insights – yes, Leapfrog have thought of everything!
Exceptionally well priced at £19.99.
Chat & Count Smart Phone.
Just last week my mum was asking where she could buy a phone for my niece. There are lots of play phones where you lift the handle and dial the numbers, but Trinity wasn’t happy unless she had her own smart phone like mummy’s!
The Chat & Count smart phone is just that – its’ as close in appearance to a real smart phone as you could possibly get. In fact, it could pass as a real phone!
The screen lights up when you use it, and there are 25 different learning activities. These are brilliant for introducing numbers and encouraging counting, not to mention roll play – very important for development in the early years. The phone itself is super colourful, and has a host of fun animations and sing-along activities. This definitely sorted my little niece out and mummy’s I phone is now safe!
Suitable for ages 18 months and upwards for £12.99. Available from http://leapfrogstore.co.uk/

Gruffalo Game
The Gruffalo Hide and Seek Mini Game.
Is there anyone who has not taken a stroll through the deep dark woods with the Gruffalo? I don’t think so! Every parent I know enjoys this series of books from the talented Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
The Gruffalo is one of my children’s favourite story time characters, and this mini game provides hours of entertainment. Can you find Fox and Snake? Follow the path and the first who finds three characters and the Gruffalo wins! A perfect game for travel and for storage as compact with the added bonus of NOT having a dice (we always lose this anyway!) Children use a spinner instead to take turns.
The game itself is beautifully illustrated and well made. It is geared for children from 3 yrs up but both my boys, although older, enjoy this game and the race to find familiar characters from the award winning Gruffalo books. RRP £8.99.

hexbugs
That addictive song, ‘What’s that coming over the hill?…. It’s a …HEXBUG!’ once again sounds out on our screens 24/7. WHY? They are simply addictive! The new range includes trendy colourful micro-robot’s behaving like real bugs – the Warrior range.
Warriors, suitable for 6+ yrs, (but dads have been known to enjoy them too!), have real running motors, snap-on weapons and armour and a shock sensor inside! These battling robots have 2 modes of play to keep the kids entertained for hours. Battle and play mode – health decreases with every strong hit until robot deactivates. They can even be customised for battle!
An absolutely fantastic addition to the already superb range of robotic toys.
If you haven’t heard, one in 40 of us already have a Hexbug! Favourites we already know include the Larva, a bright blue bug suitable for children 8yrs + and a favourite with my daughter. The likeness to real larva and the slithering movement keeps her intrigued for hours!
The Nano, liked by parents probably because of its low price and vast educational benefits, has been the most popular recently.
This compact but entertaining habitat system consists of modular parts to build with special construct pieces and detachable walls! My kids love it, along with my husband! The family spend hours designing their own mazes and re constructing the different habitats. Each set has its own rare mutation inside – all the more reason to buy one for all the kids! And to top it all – they have the added allure of having a unique code to register and play online – what every child loves these days!
So, prepare for a ‘robotic battling 2013’ with the ever expanding Hexbug range, a great toy with educational benefits enjoyed by adults and kids alike.

Hoverpetz
Who doesn’t want a Hoverpetz? These crazy flying monsters are all my kids talk about these days and I must admit – they are an ingenious invention. New from Terox, the Hoverpetz come in 4 designs, or personalities I should say!
Gonk – orange, Moosh – purple, Jelo- pink and Kook – green. They all whizz around above our heads expertly controlled by a r/c infra red controller or individual flight plans may be followed using your smart phone (the app for this can be downloaded free). What will they think of next! Not sure who plays with this the most, the kids or their dad!
Each pet lights up so they can be seen in dim light, and are built to withstand multiple crash landings – in case its ever my turn to have a go! Made from durable light plastic with flexible feet, these petz are stable on the ground and amazing in the air.
The easy to fly technology and full 6 way directional controls makes for a super cool flying experience – see for your-self and view the video www.hoverpetz.co.uk priced from £39.99. Now for the hard part – which cute flying character will you choose?
