Mum’s Notes from Mum’s Office.
Mum’s Office is a little gem of a website specialising in all kinds of stationery designed for busy mums everywhere who are trying to juggle work, family life and a host of things in between.
The range consists of a selection of diaries, planners, to do lists, notebooks and address books. All are beautifully designed and available in a range of colours and finishes.
I have a beautiful notebook which is finished in hardback silver croc print. The pages are edged in silver gilt (how cool is that?) and the notebook has 2 handy ribbon markers. It is approx. 8×6 inches, a perfect size for your handbag, office desk or indeed for on your knee in the car when waiting to collect children from school or a music lesson!
I really love my notebook along with the other books from Mum’s Office. They have taken perfectly ordinary items and made them extra special by using heavy silky paper, lovely finishes and colours. A feature I especially like is the fact that the page on the left is blank and the opposite page is lined in pink. Perfect for doodling and note making!
This would be a perfect notebook to record milestones in family life and would make a lovely gift for any busy mum.
Priced at £12.95 and available from www.mumsoffice.co.uk
Also available from John Lewis and Amazon.

Frixion Clicker Rollerball Pen from Pilot.
Well I must admit I was sceptical at the notion of an erasable pen… I mean, ink that rubs out? Well I was forced to eat my words when presented with one of Pilots Frixion erasable pens. I instantly began scribbling on the nearest piece of paper I could find, then turned the pen upside down and began to rub at what I had written.
Amazing! I was expecting a hole in my page but instead I found my scribble magically disappearing with very little effort at all. Exactly as if it was pencil! In addition to this magical quality, the pen was comfortable to hold with a non-slip grip and wrote very smoothly with no ink drips or smears. I’m going to get one each for my daughters, as we’re all fighting over this one!
Retails at approx. £2.00, available from all good stationery shops. Wish it had been around when I was in school…

Mc Laggan Smith Mugs, Manifesto and Orla Kiely.
If you have yet to discover Mc Laggan Smith Mugs, now is the time to do so. They have beautiful china mugs for everyone. From children, mums, dads, teachers, friends, etc. The selection is vast, with several designer choices and quirky comments.
I have put aside a mug for my hubby’s Christmas present ‘Bless This Shed Mug’ from the Manifesto range, RRP £9. This seemed to sum up the relationship between a man and his shed perfectly and I couldn’t resist. The range is new for 2013 and you are sure to find a mug to suit your taste.
For the more refined tastes, they have none other than the fantastic Orla Kiely mugs. I adore this designer, she is so talented and her designs are sold in the most exclusive of shops. Most of the items from Orla Kiely are out of my budget, but not these mugs. They retail for £9 and this is exceptional value for an Orla Kiely product.
I spent an entire day choosing 3 of these mugs, and I want them all! So far, I have acquired the Square Flower Sky, Scribble Multi Stem and the Flower Abacus mugs.
The designs are printed on a beautifully shaped fine bone china mug. They make my morning cup of coffee even more desirable and are perfect for afternoon tea with friends.
Mugs can be ordered from www.msmugs.com or ordered online at 01389755655.

Eliminta Laptop Saver.
Buying a gift for a teenager and young person, eg students, are the hardest gifts to choose. They seem to want only items such as laptops, tablets and other electronic devices which cost maybe more then you wish to spend.
A new laptop is costly and to help keep it workling at its best, we now have the Eliminta Laptop Saver.
The Eliminta prolongs the battery life of the laptop along with reducing energy comsumption. It is estimated that if every first year student used the Eliminta, it could save the UK £6M of energy. This is a colossal reduction and one which would go a long way to reducing overall global warming.
The Eliminta is a plug. It ensures your laptop charges when it is the optimal time for it to do so, thus prolonging battery life and reducing energy consumption. This saves time and effort on the owners part – my laptop always seemed to run out of charge at the most inconvenient of times.
Eliminta avoids the problems associated with leaving your laptop on charge and charging when the battery is empty, these are damaging to the life of your battery. The battery of a laptop should remain within 20%-80% charged and Eliminta will ensure this happens.
So, whether you are buying a laptop, or already have one, consider the overall picture with regards to energy consumption, the environment and the life of your battery.
Choose Eliminta, RRP £19.95, and enjoy hassel free charging while prolonging the life of your laptop battery.

Kenwood KMix Hand Mixer.
My kitchen is cream with a black worktop – nothing posh, just plain and pretty cheaply done. However, my kitchen accessories and far from boring! Thanks to Kenwood, I have an entire array of bright coloured kitchen essentials at my fingertips.
Kenwood are one of the best and well known companies supplying kitchen tools over the years. My Kenwood food mixer has been on the go longer then me, it was my Grandmothers, my mums and now mine and I wouldn’t part with it. The mixer is in perfect working order and the secret to my lush chocolate cake!
The moral of the story being that if you buy Kenwood, you will have it for life.
In the corner of my worktop, I have proudly displayed my bright orange Kenwood KMix hand mixer RRP £64.99. This, and my other Kenwood accessories, gives my kitchen the modern contemporary look. The mixer looks so elegant well when not in use, as the 4 attachments can slot into the main unit upside-down for safekeeping and this also keeps the unit looking tidy. Gone are the days where I would not bother whipping cream as I knew it would take 10 minutes to find the attachments in the drawer!
The KMix is perfect for my small kitchen jobs such as whipping cream, blending crème fresh and melted chocolate, and ensuring my sauces are ‘lump’ free. The 5 speed controls ensure your task is completed with minimal mess. It also comes with attachments suitable for kneading. This is fantastic, and trust me, your scones will never taste better. The kneading attachments quickly and expertly blend butter and flour while combining air and keeping your mixture light. This saves loads of time compared to the traditional method of kneading using your hands.
Several shades are available, I love my orange one, but there are a wide variety of colours to choose from along with plain cream. However, be adventurous and go for one of the bright colours like me! Everyone comments on it –I leave it on the worktop for ‘display’ reasons! Don’t we all enjoy posh looking kitchen accessories?
The box contains:
- 1 x kMix HM792 Metal Hand Mixer
- 2 x Stainless steel beaters
- 2 x Stainless steel dough kneaders
- 1 x Product instructions

Pampered Chef ‘Help Whip Cancer’ products 2013
The Pampered Chef, I can’t help but love it!
They are a direct selling company who offer a line of kitchen tools which try (and do) make our life easier when cooking and baking. The products are of superb quality and really look the part too. I have a lot of the Pampered Chef items and could not fault anything, the only problem is that I want the entire catalogue!
Every October Pampered Chef launch a range of ‘Pink’ products for their ‘Help Whip Cancer’ campaign. Between 1st and 31st October Pampered Chef consultants raise funds for Cancer Research UK. A percentage of the sales from the ‘Pink’ products also contributes to this worthy cause.
The pink products are different every year and wow, they are gorgeous!
The Classic Batter Bowl is an all time favourite of mine and for October 2013, the Pampered Chef have released this with a pink lid!
The bowl is made from tempered glass and I have even baked a cake in mine! The spout makes it perfect for making pancakes and pouring them on the pan and the contents can be kept fresh with the lid, which looks really well in pink. Microwave, dishwasher, oven and freezer safe, who wouldn’t want one of these? RRP £20.25
Fancy a piece of cake? The High Heel Cake Server lets you ‘show your strips with every slice’(Pampered Chef). The serrated edge is perfect for cleanly cutting your cake whilst leaving a neat and tidy edge. The heel is magnetic, so it can be removed for easy cleaning. This looks very trendy on the table, as it imitates a stiletto perfectly. RRP £14.95
Other ‘Pink’ products include pink and white Twixit Clips (£5.75) and a pink Mini Scoop & Measure (£5.00). These are small items but very useful. I have used Pampered Chef Twixit Clips in my kitchen for years and I find they go from the cupboard to the fridge to the freezer with not a sign of wear. These just last forever! Super tight and easy to open, these will sell out in the pink, so grab a bag while you still can.
The Mini Scoop & Measure is perfect for small baking jobs. I use mine for decorating cupcakes. It is the perfect size for scooping up little cake decorations and sprinkling them on top of cakes. The side has measuring indents, so great for measuring small amounts also. This is just available in pink for October 2013.
To accessorize your kitchen Pampered chef style, you must have the Dots Microfibre Towel. Soft and absorbent, this super looking towel is also lint free and nonabrasive. Safe to use on all surfaces, it is a very handy towel to have in your kitchen. RRP £8.50 and very good value as it can be used for drying, cleaning and even dusting. The pink and white spots fit perfectly with the cause and co-ordinate with the other ‘Help Whip cancer products’.

Ananya Cards.
Where do you buy your Christmas cards? Every year I trail through the shops and online looking for cards that are a little bit unusual, good quality and value for money. This year I am choosing Ananya cards.
Printed on luxurious card and a mix of contemporary with classic Christmas themes, these ticked all the boxes for me. These are new from Ananya and with the usual exotic flare, they are unusual and very pretty. The cards can be hand-embellished with crystals and all the cards are made from strong glossy paper which reflects the excellent quality.
The collection features Christmas trees, ornaments, snowflakes etc, all beautifully made and embellished. I love the modern style Christmas tree cards, with exotic pink, orange and blues, so much more interesting than the traditional red and green colours.
Ananya will be donating all proceeds from the sale of the Bauble and Beads card to the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. For more information on the organisation, please visit www.durrell.org (Ananya).
For a Christmas card that will add sparkle to the season, choose Ananya cards.

Traidcraft Coffee, Tea, Christmas Biscuits and Fruit Cake.
Traidcraft was established in 1979 in a bid to reduce poverty worldwide. They supply the UK with unique and unusual items from all over the world, made in an environment which supports workers and their families. Trade is supported and encouraged to help and transform lives. Producers and craftsmen work together with Traidcraft using an approach which ensures the products you buy have been produced in a safe, people friendly environment and the workers have received a fair wage for their skills. Traidcraft put people before profit.
I have recently made the switch to Traidcraft when shopping for everyday essentials. Take tea, for example, over 20 million people in the developing world heavily rely on the tea industry.
- In India, tea is the 2nd largest employer. Over 4 million people depend on the industry to survive
- 10% of Kenya’s population (or 3.8 million) is employed in the tea sector
(Traidcraft)
Many of these people have very tough lives and work extremely hard with low pay and are powerless to do anything about it. They live and work on estates and are dependent on their employers for housing, healthcare, wages, schooling and sanitation.
Tea is expensive, but its not the tea workers who reap the rewards of this commodity, but the businessmen negotiating prices and the large supermarkets who sell the tea.
If we make the change, we pay NO MORE than we would for other tea brands but we would be making a huge difference to peoples lives in the developing world.
I have had a lovely cup of Traidcraft fair-trade African Gold tea (RRP £3). This tea was naturally sweet, with a rich smooth flavour. Simply the perfect cup of tea, and I will be making this switch permanently.
For coffee lovers, Traidcraft will have a coffee to suit everyone’s taste.
Ethiopian Sidama ground coffee (RRP £4.30) made from 100% Arabica beans, and Traidcraft ensure the farmers get a fair price for this delicious coffee. They also invest in community projects with the Fairtrade Premium, helping schools, clinics, librarys and other much needed resources.
To have with your coffee, Traidcraft have a wide range of cakes and biscuits. For Christmas, try the Christmas tree biscuits, made with ginger and cinnamon, they smell and taste fab. A chocolate dipped variety is also available for children (and mums!) RRP £2.40.
My favourite would have to be the fruit cake (RRP £3.95). This was the tastiest and most moist fruit cake I have ever eaten, perfect for Christmas. I will be buying my Christmas cake from traidcraft this year for sure. It is made from fair-trade sultanas and sugar from India and Malawi and I have the reassurance that my purchase is helping people who are less fortunate then myself.
Have a look at the website
http://www.traidcraftshop.co.uk/
It is a lovely website to navigate and you will get lost in the array of groceries, toys, clothing and gifts. They are super unique and unusual and perfect as gifts.
Help an array of people you don’t know and will never meet simply by buying from traidcraft for your everyday essentials and for gifts this Christmas and rest assured in the knowledge your purchases will help make a much needed difference to peoples lives.

Frontcover Colours of the Catwalk, Metallic Collection.
Once again, I am delighted to review Front Cover make-up. This ingenious company take the looks ‘hot off the catwalk’ and present them to us in a box, complete with instructions. The layout is great, a collection of 3 domed baked powder eye-shadows, 1 double ended applicator, pewter kohl pencil and smudger, flat cheek brush, springy cream blusher, nail polish and 2 mini lipsticks.
All this in one box, and the suggestions for use printed with images on the inside cover. Fantastic, and just what I need. I would not be confident with makeup, foundation and lipgloss being the most used cosmetics in my bathroom. However, this kit is ‘fairly tame’ compared to some of the other make-up sets for sale. The colours are suitable for day and night, very wearable shades. Warm metallic colours which compliment each other are teamed with intense colour lipsticks with super staying power. These are just the right size to slip into your purse.
New to Frontcover is the Springy Cream Blusher. This gives the perfect illusion of ‘flushed cheeks’ with a dewy finish, an absolutely gorgeous colour.
The instructions and photos are brilliant, and Frontcover use only the make-up in the kit for the demonstration photos, so the look can be copied at home using only that particular kit – ingenious, isn’t it?
I now know how to make tired eyes appear brighter and how to apply kohl correctly and not look like I am in a pantomime! I can also confidently wear eyeshadows and co-ordinate these with lipsticks.
I love Frontcover and the thinking behind it. I am truly addicted and find it great value. Every season I buy a kit and have the know-how to complete the latest looks hot off the catwalk at home for a very low cost.
Frontcover Colours of the Catwalk, Metallic Collection RRP £18.

RedDog Bag Pod.
Red Dog bags, even the name sounds posh. These are an amazing bag, and its no surprise to learn they are designed by a woman! Swedish-born Marianne Sparrenius-Waters is the creative genius behind this invention and her design has taken over the world. Red Dog Bags have been sold in John Lewis and on Virgin Atlantic and celebrities have been pictured sporting their cool, trendy Red Dog Bags.
What are they? Ok, enough talk of celebs, why would you and I want one of these bags? I will tell you why. I have yet to find the correct handbag, some are too small to hold all my bits and pieces, others too long and narrow that the contents make their way to the bottom and stay there forever! When I change to a bigger bag, nothing can be found and I am fiddling about for ages looking for my phone, chewing gum and keys, etc.
Red Dog Bags will change your life – you will become organised, never leave the house forgetting something and you can say goodbye to time wasted searching for your belongings within your handbag.
I have fallen in love with the Red Dog ‘Bag Pod’. Wow, what a bag. Firstly, it comes in leather or canvas. This is absolutely genius as there is one to suit all budgets. The colours to choose from will have you deciding and then changing your mind over and over, from red, orange, silver, green and so on.
However, despite the great colours and textures, it is the style of these bags that makes them stand out from the crowd. As their founder said ‘form ever follows fashion’ this is truly evident in the design of these bags. RedDog have created a tool-kit for women, a bag that holds all we need to maintain our looks, communications with the world and everything else we hold dear and need on our person. These have the additional bonus of looking stunning, so even the most glamorous of girls will want one of these dangling from their wrist or clutched under their arm.
None other than Dannii Minogue has shared her delight with her bag pod and says,
‘I always have one on the go now to make sure I don’t leave my handbag essentials behind’
(http://danniiminogue.tumblr.com/post/34222882638/get-organised-anything-that-helps-me-get)
The bag pods have 5 internal pockets including one zipped and 4 external pockets with a large zipped pocket on the back which will hold an iPad mini or a kindle. The key fob attaches to your keys so they will never be ‘lost’ within your handbag again, and this can be clipped to the bag to make a cool wrist strap. The top zips across to keep all secure. Have a look at the images, the pockets are perfectly made for our accessories, don’t they look great?
The leather BagPod starts at £67.95 with 3 sizes available.
The canvas BagPod starts at £22.95, also in 3 sizes.
