Briers Gruffalo Wellington Boots.
Alex Scheffler and Julia Donaldson have played a very prominent part in my children’s bedtime routine for many years, Highway Rat, Room on the Broom, Stick man, Tiddler, we have them all in our bookcase. The writing and Illustrations in these fun-filled, captivating stories will stay with me forever.
However, our first purchase has remained the firm favourite, ‘The Gruffalo’. Even my seven-year-old leaves his ‘famous Five’ novel and slides over unto the sofa to hear the adventure of the ‘Mouse who took a stroll in a deep, dark, wood’……and outwitted the Owl, Snake and Fox who wanted to make him dinner….
Needless to say, My Little Girl (she’s 2yrs) adores her Gruffalo Wellington Boots and my boys oohed and ahhhed when they saw them. They are worn on country walks, trips to the park, on the school run and inside the house, basically whenever they’re spotted, shoes are removed and on they go….
I love the design which features the characters in the story printed all over the wellies, they are a lovely deep cream therefore unisex. My daughter and I don’t ‘do’ much pink clothing partly due to her bright (fabulous) ginger hair. Her gruffalo wellies match with whatever she happens to be wearing, whether its her coat or her pyjamas! (Yes, I’ve had tears when taking them off at bedtime…..)
We are an ‘outdoorsey’ family so these wellies get a lot of wear. Walks down mucky lanes and stomping in muddy puddles are very much a part of our weekends. Even with repeated hosing and sponging the glorious designs are still intact and as bright as ever. Cute little toes have remained dry after treks through long grass and walks in streams. The handy tag on the back is great for pulling the wellies up over my daughter’s chubby legs and the fact that the tag is made of rubber, not plastic means it stays secure.
So many Adults have commented on these wellies but even more kiddies have expressed their envy when they see them on my daughter……there’s not the remotest possibility that they’ll be shared but when she has grown out of them, they’ll be a cherished and useful hand-me-down to some of my nieces or nephews…….If I can bear to part with them…….
